Gateway To the Lake District

There is so much to see and do in Cumbria – the Lake District that you will find there just aren’t enough hours in the day or days in the week. You can potter around charming Lakeland towns and villages, explore the history of the area at its castles and historical houses, enjoy the great variety of attractions or have some family fun at the many events taking place all year round. Whatever the weather, there is something for everyone.

Eric Morecambe Statue

Unveiled by the Queen in 1999, the slightly larger than life-sized statue depicts Eric Morecambe in one of his characteristic poses with a pair of binoculars around his neck (he was a keen ornithologist). The Statue is set against the stunning backdrop of Morecambe Bay and the Lake District hills and people queue to have their photo taken alongside the Statue.

Morecambe Winter Gardens

A former Victoria Pavilion Theatre, Morecambe Winter Gardens has been undergoing extensive renovation work in recent years and is a spectacular building inside and out. They hold regular events including tribute nights, dancing, fun evenings, plus live music in the Parisian Bar on Sunday afternoons.

Morecambe Football Club

Our local football team play at The Globe Arena which is just a short journey away from The Crown. Details of upcoming matches and tickets can be found on their website.

Leighton Hall

The historic home of the world-renowned Gillow furniture making family, Leighton Hall is a stunning location for a day out, an exclusive wedding or extraordinary corporate event and it is only 15 minutes from the Crown Hotel. Its romantic Gothic towers, acres of beautiful gardens and trained birds of prey annually lure thousands of visitors who are as enthralled with Leighton’s fascinating heritage as they are captivated by the breathtaking beauty of their surroundings.

Leighton RSPB Bird Reserve

The largest remaining reed bed in north-west England, with shallow mere’s and fringing sedge and woodland, attracts a wonderful range of wildlife to Leighton Moss.  Among its special birds are breeding bitterns, bearded tits and marsh harriers, with water rails and pochards, and its mammals include roe and red deer. You can take your pick of long or short nature trails – shorter ones are suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Of the five bird watching hides, four have wheelchair access.  Children, as well as adults, will enjoy finding out more about the reserve from the imaginative displays in the visitor centre.
